On July 30, 2023, the district administration, Mokokchung, the District Hub For Empowerment of Women (DHEW), and the Sakhi One Stop Centre observed World Day against Trafficking in Person with the Youth Ministry, Khensa Baptist Church. The programme was observed on the theme, “Reach every victim of Trafficking. Leave no one behind”.

An overview of Mission Shakti was given by Moamenla Longkumer, Mission Coordinator, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW). ‘ Mission Shakti, a scheme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, is aimed at strengthening interventions for women’s safety, security, and empowerment.

Speaking on the theme, the speaker, Tajungla Longkumer, advocate for Sakhi One-stop Centre, gave insightful details on Understanding the meaning and the different natures of trafficking. She also shed light on the Acts provided by the constitution on Trafficking. With reference to the different types of trafficking, she cautioned the attendees to be aware of how it is committed. Further, she stated that fighting and advocating against Trafficking is not the responsibility of concerned organisations, lawyers, or stakeholders alone; as responsible citizens, it is everyone’s duty to create awareness and take actions to create change.
