The 77th Independence Day was celebrated at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, with the Minister for Women Resources Development and Horticulture, Govt. of Nagaland, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, who hoisted the National Flag and delivered the Independence Day speech.
Altogether eleven (11) parade contingents (DEF Mokokchung, 2nd NAP Alichen, 13th IRP Battalion, Home Guards & Civil Defence, Ex. Servicemen, NCC MGHSS, Scout & Guides Dilong GHS, NCC Fazl Ali College, Scout & Guides MGHSS, Scout & Guides Imrong School Umgma, and 2nd NAP Pipe Band) took part in the March Past with Assistant Commandant 2nd NAP, Benrio, NPS, as the Parade Commander, and ABI Tekatemjen, DEF Mkg, as the 2nd in Command.
On the occasion, the entertainment extravaganza included the presentation of cultural dances by Waromung Nungden Reju Cultural Society, Mokokchung, and Mangmetong Senso Telongjem, Mokokchung, and a pipe band display by 12 Assam rifles. The Minister inaugurated the exhibition stalls set up by different departments and also inaugurated the CCTV Cameras in Mokokchung District at Police Station 1.
The program also witnessed a joint pledge for Drug-Free Nagaland, and the District Commendation Award for Meritorious Service was awarded to six individuals. The awardees were Tekamera R. Keitzar, LDA cum Computer Asstt, District Administration, Chairman, Ao Riju (Erstwhile Ao Literature Board), Jongpongtola, District Training Commissioner (DTC), Bharat Scouts & Guides, MGHSS, Sanenchiba, LDA cum Computer Asstt., District Education Office, Temjenyapang Ao, UBC, DEF Mokokchung, and Moanola Longchar, Town Higher Secondary School Mokokchung.
