Mokokchung| Dec 20: Mokokchung Town will be celebrating the 50th edition of the inter-ward cake race on December 23 at Mokokchung. Chumlamo Humtsoe, ADC and Administrator, Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), and Convenor, Steering Committee,  informed in a press conference held at MMC Conference Hall on December 20.

Chumlamo informed that the 50th edition of the inter-ward cake race was supposed to be celebrated in 2021, but due to the pandemic, two editions were cancelled. He informed that in this year’s edition, the whole of Mokokchung is coming forward to organize the event. The Mokokchung Municipal Council, District Administration, All Ward Union, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, Bakery and Restaurant Association Mokokchung, Pick-up Truck Owners Association Mokokchung, Mokokchung District Athletics Association, to name a few, are all engaged in the organization of the event.

The convenor further informed that the event will be a plastic-free event where single-use plastic will not be utilized. The event is organized by the Mokokchung Municipal Council in collaboration with the Seasonal Club, Mokokchung. The Seasonal Club Mokokchung initiated the first inter-ward cake race in 1971.

The event will start at 7:00 a.m. on December 23 at Main Town Square, and Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, will be the guest of honour. 11 participants from 18 wards will participate in the event. Along with the cake race, there will also be a fancy dress competition among the 18 wards on the theme “The Three Magi.”

The best-maintained ward will also be awarded in the same event, including the most-progressed ward.
