The 1st Mega Job Expo, 2024, organised by Mokokchung District and Development Board (DPDB) and District Skill Committee under the theme “Connecting Careers,” was held on January 30, 2024, at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung. Shri Tongpang Ozukum, Honourable Advisor, Water Resources, Government of Nagaland, and Chairman of DPDB, Mokokchung, attended the programme as a special guest.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Shri Tongpang Ozukum lauded the organisers for their significant initiative in organising these two days of the Mega Job Expo, keeping in mind Nagaland’s employment scenario. Though Nagaland is a small state, looking at the ratio, he said that it has the highest number of government employees, with the government employment sector having reached the saturation point. With a major portion of development funds utilised in giving salaries, Shri Tongpang stated that the government is now trying to scale down government employees. He, therefore, urged the youths to try to avail themselves of the different opportunities provided by the private sector since equal opportunities are provided by them. He opined that it is only when we enjoy working in a diverse environment that we get the opportunity to know others and understand the real meaning of ‘work culture’ and ‘value of money’. Emphasising the importance of skills in today’s world, he encouraged the youths to select a job that suits their skills, grab the chance to interact with the recruiting agencies, get the right job based on one’s skills, and soar higher in life. He also expressed hope that, out of this mega job event, many job seekers will benefit.
The Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), the Business Association of Nagas (BAN), and Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, are the partners for this mega job expo. The logistic partners are Assam Rifles, Mokokchung Channel, Tir YimYim, and Morung Express. The primary objective of the job expo is to facilitate employment opportunities for unemployed youths in the state. 28 partnering companies are offering job opportunities to unemployed youths at this two-day mega-expo.
The programme was hosted by Dr. Limasenla Jamir, while Shri Thsuvisie Phoji, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, Planning Committee, delivered the welcome address. Er. T. Imlisunep Ao, Secretary, Planning Committee, delivered the keynote address. Short speeches were delivered by Mr. Vinod Kumar, Vice Principal, FAC; Mr. Mongkum Jamir, President, BAN; and Mr. Takumi Ishiwatari, Japanese Teacher, Arms Nagaland Centre. Mr. P.
