A Mini Dairy Plant Cum Dairy Farmers’ Training Centre, set up under the National Programme for Dairy Development and constructed under the initiatives of the Directorate of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Nagaland State Dairy Co-operative Federation Ltd. Kohima, was inaugurated today, July 12, 2024, at Marepkong Ward, Mokokchung, with Advisor, Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Kazeheto Kinimi, as the Special Guest.
The advisor said in his speech that the PDA government is committed to bringing about a ‘White Revolution’ in the state through mass-based organisations and cooperative societies in line with the National Policy on Dairy Development. He said the small yet important step taken today would pave the way for greater development in the future, as our state is yet to reach self-sufficiency in milk, egg, poultry, livestock, and meat production.
The advisor said that the people of the state must realise that dairy farming has significant potential in Nagaland and can provide gainful employment to various sections of society. He encouraged the people, especially the younger generation, to venture into this sector, saying that the department, on its part, would do its best to guide and assist aspiring entrepreneurs in the sector.
He asked the dairy farmers in the district to support and cooperate with the department, saying that the physical infrastructure is made by the department but can turn into an economic infrastructure only when both the department and the dairy farmers work hand in hand.
Dedicatory prayer was said by Associate Pastor, Marepkong Baptist Church, Takatoshi; Director, A.H. & Vety. Services, Dr. Achila Ao, who chaired the programme; and Managing Director, NSDCF Ltd., Dr. Joseph Angami, delivered the keynote address; and Secretary, MDCMPU Ltd., L. Yanger Lemtor, delivered the vote of thanks.
During the technical session, topics on Fertility Management of Dairy Cattle, Quality, and Clean Milk Production were discussed by General Manager, MDP, Dr. Sanen Jamir, and Project Director, NSDCF Ltd., Zapove Swuro.
