The 78th India Independence Day was celebrated in Mokokchung today at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, with Minister, Environment, Forest, Climate Change, and Village Guard, C. L. John, hoisting the national flag.

The Minister, after delivering the Independence Day Speech, also gave away the District Commendation Award 2024 and inaugurated the Exhibition Stalls.

Altogether 11 (Eleven) contingents took part in the March Past, which includes D.E.F. Mokokchung, 13th (IR) NAP, Ex Servicemen, NCC MGHSS, NCC Fazl Ali College, Scout & Guides Queen Mary HSS, Scout & Guides MGHSS, District Scout & Guides, Sumi GMS, GMS Imrong Ungma, and Band Platoon 2nd NAP Alichen. The contingents were led by Asst. Commandant 2nd NAP Alichen, Benrio NPS (Parade Commander), and ABI DEF, Mokokchung Second in Command. 

Highlights of the program include cultural presentations by Gorkha Union, Mokokchung, and Watemdong Cultural Club, Ungma, followed by a tug-of-war match between Departmental Officers and MMC Councillors, which went in favour of the MMC uncilors. Later in the evening exhibition, a football match was played between DPDB XI and MFL 35+.
