


On 24th August, 2024, Satellite OST was launched in Primary Health Centre, Ungma. The launching program was organised by District AIDS Control and Prevention Units, Mokokchung (DAPCU) and sponsored by NSACS. The program was held at the Ungma PHC.
Makshi Jamir, DPO, DAPCU, highlighted on OST. OST stands for opioid substitution therapy. It’s a treatment that can help people make better decisions and avoid the dangers of illegal drug use. When taken as directed, the prescribed medication is legal to possess and use. Avoiding illegal drugs that may be cut with unknown substances. He highlighted that OST treatment can avoid criminal prosecution associated with illegal drug use and make better decisions about work, relationships, and other important issues. Undergoing OST treatment means not having to go through complete withdrawal. Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) is another important element of HIV prevention among injected drug users. OST is under the National AIDs Control Programme.
Imtidongba Jamir, Tatar, Village Council Ungma expressed gratitude to NSACs and DAPCU for the noble initiative and urged the doctors and staff of PHC, Ungma, to work diligently in the service of those IDUs. Mr. T. Wati Longkumer, Pastor Ungma Baptist Arogo, did a dedicatory prayer of the OST Satellite, and Dr. Moamongla, Ayush Medical Officer, proposed the vote of thanks. The launching program was followed by the induction of OST clients in the Primary Health Centre, Ungma.
The program was attended by stakeholders like village council members of Ungma, Ungma Baptist Church, DAPCU, Targeted Intervention, Mobile ICTC, and Care & Support Society, Mokokchung.
