A strong Mokokchung District Taekwondo Association (MDTA) contingent was formally flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of Mokokchung District Sports Council, Thusvisie Phoji, from the NST Station on August 31 in the presence of MDTA officials and parents of the young players.
The Mokokchung district team will be participating in the 34th Nagaland State Taekwondo Championship to be held on September 2 & 3, 2024, in Phek district. The MDTA contingent comprises 33 players to compete in all categories, accompanied by four coaches and managers to mentor the athletes.
Speaking briefly before the flag off, the DC ThusvisiePhoji encouraged the contingent to be disciplined and give their best during the championship. He encouraged the players to try their best and win the medals and laurels for the district. At the same time, Phoji encouraged the players not to be discouraged if they fail to win any medals. He reminded them that they are still young and have years ahead of them, and more opportunities would come their way in the future for them to excel. He further wished them a comfortable stay in the host district, Phek, and prayed for their safe return after the championship.
Meanwhile, the MTBA Associate Pastor Monglier read a Bible verse and invoked God’s blessing and protection for the contingent.
The MDTA was established in the year 1987. Over the years, the association has been participating in almost all the competitions at the district and state levels.
