Mokokchung District Disaster Management Authority successfully conducted a mock drill on an earthquake disaster simulating 6.9 magnitude on the Richter scale that struck the town on October 24, 2024, as part of the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) statewide mega drill exercise on earthquake disaster organised by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority.

The disaster scenario of a landslide, fire incident, and collapse structure was simulated at five different locations in the town: Longkumer Kilem, Lenjem Hospital, Straightway Hr. Sec. School, DC Office building, and a landslide on the way to DC Office.

The designated staging area was put up at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, where an emergency medical camp was set up to provide medical aid to the injured victims transported from the site of the incidents and the deployment of machinery and personnel in response to incident reports by setting up of incident response teams (IRT) at the staging area.

After all the mock drill exercise was completed at the staging area, the incident commander demobilised the IRT, followed by remarks from the chief observer where he shared some observations of the exercise. Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, in his concluding remarks, mentioned that the mock drill was successfully conducted due to the active participation of all the designated officials, personnel, departments, and volunteers from various NGOs and schools. He also added the overall response was good, but we need to be more practical while carrying out the assigned responsibilities.
