The 35+ Mokokchung Football League (MFL) has launched a five-day Grassroot Football Coaching Clinic at the Mojabi Futsal Turf at Salangtem Ward, Mokokchung. The clinic, which began today, aims to provide young football enthusiasts with expert guidance and training under the guidance of Nagaland Coach Brando Kamson and his team from Barack FC.
The launch ceremony was followed by category-wise coaching sessions, where children were grouped based on their skill levels. The coaching sessions were divided into two categories: beginners and advanced. A total of 125 football enthusiasts, including 9 girls aged 9-14, registered for the clinic.
Sr Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, Vesupra Kezo, emphasized the importance of grassroots football, stating that champions are born at this level. He urged parents and children to be patient and focus on developing skills stage by stage.
“A player of 9 years should be taught the basics, while a 12-year-old should learn techniques like passing and dribbling,” Kezo said. A 15-year-old should be taught the practicality of football.
The coaching clinic is being conducted by Brando Kamson, coach of Barack FC, the reigning champion of the Nagaland Super League 2025. Shiponglepba, Rongsennungba, and Tiatoshi from MFL will also be guiding and coaching the players during the clinic.
The 35+ MFL’s vision is to nurture talent at the grassroots level, and this coaching clinic is a step towards achieving that goal. The league, which started with the theme “Fellowship, Football, and Fitness”, has seen significant growth over the past four years and six sessions.
Dr Lanu Walling, a member of the management team of 35+ MFL and committee member of the 35+ MFL grassroots coaching clinic, expressed his excitement about the initiative. “This coaching clinic will provide young footballers with the opportunity to learn from experienced coaches and improve their skills,” he said.
The Grassroot Football Coaching Clinic is expected to encourage a sense of community and sportsmanship among the participants. With the aim of developing young talent, the clinic is a significant step towards promoting football in Mokokchung.
35+ MFL Following the Grassroot Coaching Clinic, a league called Vision League will be organized by 35+ MFL to provide a platform for the players who attended the coaching clinic.
