
Mokokchung, 10th March, 2026 (www.nokinketer.in): The Mahila Jan Sunwai (Public Hearing) was successfully organized today at DC’s Conference Hall, Mokokchung. The program was conducted by the Nagaland State Commission for Women in collaboration with the District Administration, the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, and the Sakhi One Stop Center, Mokokchung, under the aegis of the National Commission for Women.
The JanSunwai Session (Public Hearing) was chaired by W. Nginyeih Konyak, Chairperson, Nagaland State Commission for Women. During the session, women from different parts of the district were given the opportunity to present their grievances and concerns directly before the commission. The Commission assured that the issues/cases raised would be examined thoroughly and necessary steps would be taken to ensure speedy delivery of justice and support for the affected individuals.
Delivering the keynote address, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, emphasized the need for collective efforts from government departments, civil society, and community leaders to ensure the safety, dignity, and empowerment of women. He reiterated the District Administration’s commitment to strengthening support systems and ensuring that women have access to justice and welfare services.
A PowerPoint presentation was presented by Wangshinaro, Centre Administrator, Sakhi One Stop Centre, Mokokchung, outlining the services provided to women affected by violence, including legal aid, medical assistance, psychosocial counselling, and temporary shelter. The presentation also highlighted the Centre’s role in facilitating coordinated support through various government departments and stakeholders.
The welcome address was delivered by Moamenla Longkumer, District Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti. The programme commenced with a prayer by Nukshinaro, Gender Specialist. M. Ajungla Longchar, Case Worker, Sakhi One Stop Centre, Mokokchung, proposed a vote of thanks.
The Mahila Jansunwai serves as an important platform to strengthen mechanisms for addressing issues related to women and to promote awareness about available support services, reaffirming the collective commitment to women’s empowerment and protection in the district.
