Mokokchung, 12th March, 2026 (www.nokinketer.in): On Day-5 of the ongoing Eighth Session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly at NLA Hall, Kohima on 12th March 2026, MLA, Nuklutoshi raised a starred question seeking details on the total funds received and reasons for delay in completion of the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex (MDSC) in Dimapur.
Replying to the query, Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir informed the House that a total of ₹140 crore has been received so far for the construction of the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex, Dimapur. He stated that ₹43 crore was received earlier from the Planning Commission during 2006–2007 to 2010–2011. However, no further funding was received after the transition to NITI Aayog. Subsequently, the State Government provided ₹97 crore over the years, taking the total funds received for the project to ₹140 crore.
During the discussion, MLA, Nuklutoshi sought the views of Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio regarding the progress of the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex, Dimapur and the Government’s plan for its completion.
Supplementing the reply, Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio stated that the project was delayed due to limited financial resources and phased funding over the years. He informed that while ₹140 crore has been received so far, the total requirement for completion of the project is estimated at around ₹267 crore, including GST and other costs.
Rio said that considering the financial constraints, the government is exploring the option of handing over the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) as a possible solution for completing the remaining construction work and ensuring its full utilization.
He informed that the process of handing over the facility to SAI is currently underway. He stated that the second survey of the complex has already been conducted, and the only remaining step is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the State Government and SAI. The Department of Sports will sign the agreement with the SAI regional directorate.
Rio also noted that since the stadium is designed with a seating capacity of around 30,000, at least three entry points would be required to ensure proper access and crowd management.
He added that once handed over, SAI will not only assist in completing the construction but will also ensure full utilization of the facility, including the deployment of coaches and the establishment of national-standard training centers in different sports disciplines.
