Mokokchung, October 5 (Nokinketer News): The National People’s Party (NPP) has filed separate petitions before the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly seeking the disqualification of five MLAs who recently joined the Naga People’s Front (NPF).
The petitions were filed on Monday under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, which provides for disqualification of legislators on grounds of defection.
The five MLAs are A. Nyamnyei Konyak, Nuklutoshi, C. Kipili Sangtam, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso and Benei M. Lamthiu. They formally joined the NPF on October 1.
The NPP has sought action against the MLAs under the anti-defection provisions of the Constitution.
