Mokokchung, 18th May, 2026 (Nokinketer News): Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has detected an incident of overcharging in connection with labour work and head load services carried out under its jurisdiction.

According to an official report issued by Enforcement Inspector Moasunep, an enquiry revealed that the labourers engaged for the transportation of a light post had submitted an inflated labour claim. The work involved six Muttiahs, and the amount claimed was found to be excessive and not in accordance with the rates fixed by the MMC.

Following verification and examination of the matter, the council imposed penalties on the individuals involved. Vijay, identified as Muttiah Sardar No. 1, was fined Rs. 5,000, while Ramswarth Yadav (Muttiah No. 342), Ahok Mandal (Muttiah No. 350), Asarti Mahato (Muttiah No. 143), Dinesh Roy (Muttiah No. 113), and Biltu Shah (Muttiah No. 76) were each fined Rs. 1,000.

The council stated that the matter was reviewed thoroughly and necessary instructions have been issued to prevent recurrence of such practices in future works under the jurisdiction of the MMC. All concerned persons were also warned to maintain transparency and submit only genuine labour charges in future.
