
Mokokchung, 19th May, 2026 (Nokinketer News): Following reports of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in Chungtia village, Kangtsungyimsen village, and Shitikolak ward under Tuli Sub-Division, Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, has issued an advisory for strict public compliance.
According to the advisory, issued based on a report received from the Office of the Chief Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung, the public has been advised to refrain from buying and consuming pork in the affected areas and adjoining regions.
The Veterinary Department, in coordination with concerned administrative officers, will closely monitor the infected areas. The advisory also stated that the import of pigs from outside the state will be strictly regulated in accordance with existing guidelines.
All imported pig consignments entering the district will undergo mandatory testing by the Veterinary Department, while transit time at designated stockyards within Tuli Sub-Division should not exceed 24 hours. Fresh testing will also be conducted before transportation to neighbouring sub-divisions and districts outside Tuli.
The department has further been directed to intensify monitoring along border areas and ensure extensive testing to prevent further spread of the disease.
Meanwhile, the public has been urged to immediately report any suspicious behaviour or sudden death of pigs suspected to be caused by ASF to the Office of the Chief Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung, through Dr. Imtilong Longkumer, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, at 9500807407.
