Tobu, August 4 (Nokinketer News): The 36th August Gold Cup Trophy, organised by the Sey-Ong Club, Tobu, commenced on Tuesday at Tobu Headquarters under Mon district. The tournament was inaugurated by former Minister and Vice President of the Central Office Bearers (COB), NPF Nagaland, L. Shiakpong Konyak, as the Chief Guest.

Addressing the inaugural function, Shiakpong lauded the Sey-Ong Club for consistently organising the prestigious football tournament for the past 36 years, providing a platform for young players to showcase their talent and pursue careers in sports.

Emphasising the role of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork and unity among the youth, he encouraged the participating players to make the best use of the tournament and seize the opportunities it offers to advance their sporting careers. He also appealed to leaders of the area to continue supporting the club in its efforts to promote sports and nurture young talent.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Chairman of Sey-Ong Club, K.T. Lehwang Konyak, welcomed the Chief Guest, dignitaries, well-wishers and participating teams. He expressed gratitude to the Nagaland Football Association (NFA) for approving the tournament under its aegis and for extending technical support and guidance.

The chairman also acknowledged the assistance of Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, S. Keoshu Yimkhiung, for providing sports equipment for the tournament. He further thanked MLA Naiba Konyak and MLA and Chairman of the Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB), Tobu, Nyamnyei Konyak, for their continued support and timely assistance to the club.

The inaugural programme concluded with a special performance by the Choosen 3 Band, followed by the official declaration of the tournament through the ceremonial kick-off by the Chief Guest.
