Mokokchung, 4th August 2026 (Nokinketer News): Social activist Bendang Imsong has appealed to the Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Works & Housing, Government of Nagaland, seeking immediate intervention for the restoration and reinforcement of National Highway-2 along the Mokokchung–Tzudikong stretch following extensive monsoon damage.

In a representation submitted on Tuesday, Imsong stated that torrential rainfall has triggered landslides, land subsidence and flash floods across Tuli subdivision, leaving several portions of the highway badly damaged and, in some places, completely impassable.

Describing NH-2 as the primary road link connecting northern Nagaland with Assam through Tzudikong and Tuli, he said the disruption has severely affected the movement of essential commodities, fuel and medical supplies to Mokokchung, Tuensang, Longleng and Zunheboto districts. He cautioned that prolonged closure of the route could lead to supply shortages and rising prices across the region.

Imsong also highlighted the impact on students seeking admission to colleges and universities outside the region, stating that disrupted road connectivity could prevent many from meeting important academic deadlines. He further expressed concern over the effect on emergency healthcare services, noting that patient referrals from the affected areas depend heavily on the highway, particularly as local health facilities have also been affected by the monsoon.

While acknowledging that the district administration and village councils have opened temporary bypasses for light vehicles, he said the diversions remain unsafe during continuous rainfall and are unsuitable for heavy vehicles. He also warned that unstable slopes and blocked drainage systems along the damaged stretches pose an ongoing threat to commuters, nearby settlements and agricultural land.

Appealing for urgent government intervention, Imsong said the restoration of NH-2 is essential not only for public safety and disaster response but also for protecting the region’s economy and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for thousands of residents.
