Nagaland, 13th August 2026 (Nokinketer News): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Thursday called for people-centred and inclusive development, stressing that progress should be measured not only by infrastructure but also by improved quality of life, opportunities for youth and preservation of cultural heritage.
Addressing district officials, civil society organisations and stakeholders at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall during his visit to Wokha, the Governor described the district as a land of rich traditions, vibrant communities and abundant natural resources. He said the values of the Lotha community—mutual respect, community living and collective responsibility—should continue to guide the district’s development.
The Governor emphasised the need to ensure equitable access to quality education, healthcare, drinking water, electricity, road connectivity, digital infrastructure and social security. He also highlighted Wokha’s potential in agriculture, horticulture, tourism, handicrafts and entrepreneurship, urging greater support for farmers through modern technology, value addition, processing facilities and better market linkages.
Stressing that Nagaland’s youth were its greatest asset, Yadav encouraged young people to pursue skill development, innovation and entrepreneurship in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, technology, sports and creative industries. He observed that government jobs alone could not meet the aspirations of the younger generation and called for greater focus on self-employment and community-led initiatives.
On cultural preservation, the Governor urged people to safeguard their traditions and identity, while commending community-led conservation efforts to protect the Amur Falcon. He said Wokha had the potential to emerge as a model for sustainable eco-tourism by balancing development with environmental conservation.
Yadav also called upon government officials to uphold transparency, accountability and responsiveness while working closely with traditional institutions and civil society organisations. He said education should promote critical thinking and responsible citizenship, while healthcare should focus on preventive care, maternal and child health, and nutrition.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Wokha, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, delivered the welcome address and presented an overview of the district, highlighting its economy, agriculture, education, governance, entrepreneurship and development challenges.
Representatives of civil society organisations also submitted key concerns. Lotha Hoho sought improvement of National Highway connectivity, while Lotha Eloe Hoho called for establishment of a multipurpose training hub to promote handloom and skill development for women and youth.
The programme also included presentations by various departments on government schemes and success stories of beneficiaries. MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe accompanied the Governor during the visit.
