Mokokchung, 19th August 2026 (Nokinketer News): Mokokchung Photography Club observed World Photography Day 2026 under the theme “Home” at the Mokokchung Municipal Council Conference Hall on Wednesday. The programme was attended by club members, photography enthusiasts and founding members of the club.

Speaking as the guest of honour, Project Director, DRDA Mokokchung, Smti. Imyapangla, said photography plays a far greater role in society than is often realised, as it preserves moments, memories and history for future generations.

She said photographs tell stories of people, places and traditions that may no longer exist, adding that photographers have the responsibility of documenting the identity and heritage of their communities. Encouraging photographers to continue learning and experimenting, she urged them to document local stories and believe in the value of their work.

Highlighting photography as a potential livelihood, she encouraged young people to develop skills and create opportunities instead of waiting solely for employment. She said that with creativity and dedication, photography could become a means of self-employment and contribute towards addressing youth unemployment.

As part of the observance, the club organised a Mobile Phone Photography Competition on the theme “Home”, which received 66 entries from across Mokokchung district. The competition was open to residents of the district. Mr. Odichuba Ozukum (Sungkomen Ward) won the first prize, while Akangkokba (Ungma Village) and Tekatemjen Walling (Süngratsü Village) secured the second and third prizes respectively.
