Mokokchung, 21st August 2026 (Nokinketer News): Lok Sabha MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir, visited the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, and reviewed its functioning with focus on manpower, employment, infrastructure and coordination with the local community.
During an interaction with the director and staff, Supongmeren was informed that the institute has only 17 sanctioned posts against the 48 posts originally proposed. Of these, only five are permanent posts, including that of the director.
The MP also raised the long-pending service matter involving 12 employees who have been serving at the institute since 2006, but whose cases remain under litigation over recruitment and regularisation.
Expressing concern over the prolonged delay, Jamir assured that he would take up the matter with the concerned Ministry, subject to rules and legal procedures.
He also stressed the need for employment generation and urged the institute to maintain constructive dialogue with local youth and the village community, while ensuring dignity and fair treatment for local workers.
