Kohima, 21st August 2026 (Nokinketer News): In a significant step towards strengthening the State’s renewable energy capacity, the Department of Power, Government of Nagaland, on Friday signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with M/s Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd. for the development of a 20 MW solar power plant at Tizit in Mon district.

The agreement was signed at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Conference Hall in the presence of Principal Secretary, Power, the Chief Engineers of Transmission & Generation (T&G) and Distribution & Revenue (D&R), officials from the Power, Finance, and Law & Justice Departments, along with representatives of M/s Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Engineer (T&G), Er. Nitovi A. Wotsa, said the State’s peak electricity demand currently stands at 203 MW and is projected to rise to 482 MW by 2034-35. To meet this growing demand, he said the Government is pursuing plans to expand its power generation capacity through both State-funded projects and private sector participation.

Principal Secretary, Power, underscored the urgency of increasing Nagaland’s generation capacity, highlighting solar energy as a practical and efficient solution for the State. Unlike hydro, wind, and thermal power systems, he noted, solar plants have no mechanical moving parts and require a much shorter gestation period.

He further stated that Nagaland’s sub-tropical climate offers favourable solar radiation, making solar power generation well suited to the State. Urging the developer to expedite the project, he said its timely completion would not only boost Nagaland’s renewable energy capacity but also help the State fulfil its Renewable Consumption Obligations (RCO).

The Principal Secretary also appealed to the developer to generate employment opportunities for local residents during both the construction and operational phases of the project.

Directors of M/s Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd.—Bhakti Dave, Hardik Dave and Nayaan Ratandhayara—presented the project’s implementation plan during the programme.

The proposed 20 MW solar power plant will be established at Lapa Lampong Village under Tizit in Mon district. The project marks the fourth private-sector initiative in Nagaland’s power generation sector, reflecting the State Government’s continued efforts to encourage private investment in renewable energy infrastructure.
