Kohima, 2nd October 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a series of measures to facilitate electors during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, including home visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for document collection in cases involving unmapped details or logical discrepancies.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, persons who have been issued notices in such cases will not ordinarily be required to visit the office of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) for a hearing.
Under the revised arrangement, BLOs will visit the homes of concerned electors to collect the required documents and upload them on ECINET for consideration by the EROs/AEROs. Hearings will be required only in exceptional cases, as determined by the concerned ERO/AERO, and will preferably be conducted through online mode.
Where a hearing is required, an adult member of the elector’s family may be authorised by the elector to attend on their behalf.
The ECI has also directed District Election Officers to establish adequate Help Desks and conduct Special Camps, wherever required, to assist vulnerable and underserved groups during the SIR process. The facilities will particularly cater to people living in night shelters, labourers, poor and homeless persons and others requiring assistance.
District-wise Help Desk contact numbers have been made available on the website of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland.
The Commission has further decided that in States and Union Territories where the SIR has already been completed, a special enrolment drive will be undertaken for electors who were left out, as well as young and first-time eligible voters, under the continuous updation of electoral rolls.
The ECI also clarified the use of the Declaration Form attached with Form 6. The form will be applicable only during the SIR period. During periods when SIR is not underway, the forms prescribed under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, will continue to be used.
The measures are aimed at making the SIR process more accessible and reducing the need for electors, particularly those facing social or economic constraints, to make repeated visits to election offices.
