Mokokchung, 2nd October 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Mokokchung district administration has issued fresh guidelines for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, including a provision for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to visit the homes of electors who have been issued notices for being unmapped or having logical discrepancies.

The instructions were issued by Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, in pursuance of the Election Commission of India (ECI) Press Note dated September 26, 2026, and subsequent instructions received from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland, on September 30.

Under the revised procedure, BLOs will visit the residences of persons who have received notices for being unmapped or having logical discrepancies and collect the required documents. The documents will subsequently be uploaded on the ECI Net portal for consideration and decision by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO).

The district administration clarified that such electors need not be called to the ERO/AERO office for a hearing. Hearings will be conducted only in exceptional cases as determined by the ERO/AERO and, wherever possible, through online or other convenient modes of communication.

Where a hearing is required, an elector may authorise any adult member of the family to attend on their behalf.

The Election Department has also been directed to establish adequate Help Desks and organise Special Camps for people living in night shelters, labourers, poor and homeless persons and other vulnerable groups to facilitate their participation in the SIR process.

In areas where the SIR has already been completed, the election machinery will undertake a special enrolment drive for left-out eligible voters, including young and first-time electors, under the continuous updation of electoral rolls.

The administration further clarified that the Declaration Form attached with Form 6 will be used only during the SIR phase. During the non-SIR period, the forms prescribed under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, will continue to be used.

The Deputy Commissioner has directed all BLOs, Supervisors, AEROs, EROs and other stakeholders involved in the electoral revision process in Mokokchung district to take note of the instructions and ensure their timely compliance for the smooth conduct of the ongoing SIR.

This version keeps the BLO home visits and reduced requirement for physical hearings as the main news angle, while retaining the other ECI directions for completeness.
