Mokokchung, 6th October 2026 (Nokinketer News): Mokokchung has emerged as one of the top-performing districts in the North Eastern States in terms of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) performance, ranking 4th among 121 districts in the region, according to Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, Principal Secretary and Development Commissioner, Planning & Transformation Department, Nagaland.

Kikheto made the statement during his inspection of key development projects in Mokokchung on October 5 as part of an initiative directed by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) to assess the quality, implementation and timely completion of projects across all districts.

Mokokchung was the first district in Nagaland to be covered under the inspection initiative, with similar inspections scheduled for other districts.

During the visit, Kikheto inspected the Library-cum-Museum at Ungma, constructed under the North Eastern Council (NEC). The project was sanctioned in April 2017 at a cost of ₹4.21 crore and completed in November 2024.

He stated that NEC has released ₹3.55 crore, while the State share of ₹42.07 lakh has also been released and all liabilities cleared. A claim of ₹12.55 lakh towards GST reimbursement is currently under consideration in the Finance Department.

The Development Commissioner also informed that an additional requirement of ₹63.30 lakh for library resources, museum display units, furnishing and other installations has been recommended by the State Level Empowered Committee and submitted to NEC for consideration.

If approved, he said, the additional funds should be utilised to develop the facility’s interiors with a strong traditional character reflecting the heritage, architecture and cultural identity of the area. He stressed that the facility should benefit the public, particularly students from Ungma and neighbouring areas, while calling for active community participation in its maintenance and sustainability.

Describing Ungma as one of Nagaland’s iconic villages, Kikheto also encouraged the village council to extend its community and charitable initiatives beyond the village to support comparatively less-developed communities and villages.

He subsequently inspected the Dikhu Bridge–Amguri Road, constructed under NESIDS (Roads). The 17.155-km road was sanctioned on August 5, 2019, at a cost of ₹59.77 crore, with the full sanctioned amount released by the Ministry of DoNER.

Executed by M/s TTC_ANK_JV, the road was completed on May 13, 2025, achieving 100% physical and financial progress. The road is currently under maintenance up to May 2029.

After inspecting the entire stretch, Kikheto found the workmanship satisfactory but observed landslides at three locations. He directed the contractor to clear the affected areas during the working season and construct suitable retaining structures using rock boulders and wire mesh to strengthen the vulnerable stretches.

Kikheto’s remarks on Mokokchung’s SDG performance highlighted the district’s strong development indicators, with the district ranking 4th among 121 districts across the North Eastern States.
