Dimapur, 7th October 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD), along with its NLTP Committee, has re-submitted a representation to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, seeking the lifting of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act in the district.

The NCD said the Act, enacted in 1989, has failed to curb the widespread availability of liquor in Dimapur. Its Vigilance Committee claimed to have identified more than 2,000 liquor outlets operating in and around the district.

The committee said such outlets have been identified across areas stretching from Chümoukedima Gate 2, New Field Gate and Manja Gate to Purana Bazar, Dhansiri River, Super Market, Nagarjan, Burma Camp, New Market and Industrial Estate.

The NCD and its committee proposed that prohibition be lifted on a one-year trial basis, with liquor sales brought under government regulation. Their proposals include fixed sale timings, designated dry days and Aadhaar-based age verification.

They further suggested restricting liquor sales to persons aged 23 years and above, with a maximum limit of two bottles per person.

The NCD said a regulated system could help address the gap between the existing prohibition law and the ground reality of liquor availability in Dimapur.
