Mokokchung, 15th April, 2026 (www.nokinketer.in): The Nagaland Education Project – The Lighthouse (NECTAR) created a Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM) Portal for Lighthouse School Complexes (LSC) during a one-day training for School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV) Committees on April 14, 2026, at Hotel De Oriental, Kohima. It was launched by Alun Hangsing (NCS Retired), Chairman, Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR). The portal will ensure mandatory reporting of all SRGBV cases in Government Schools with quick and effective redressal of the cases.

Delivering the welcome note, Shashank Pratap Singh (IAS), Principal Director of DoSE and Project Director of NECTAR, stated that the creation of a GRM is mandated by court directives as well as the United Nations and the World Bank. Singh underlined the crucial responsibility of the committee members and stated that since schools are an extension of the home and family, School Heads and Teacher Counsellors must ensure a safe and friendly atmosphere for the students. Singh also urged the committee members to handle juvenile cases of gender-based violence sensitively with counselling support.

In the keynote address, Alun Hangsing (NCS retired), Chairman of NSCPCR, highlighted how nations that have taken child rights seriously in the past have prospered and achieved a high Human Development Index. He stated that, given the significance of child rights, the Indian Parliament has instituted the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), and subsequently, the Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) was also established. He stated that the LSC SRGBV Committee members have an immense responsibility. Hangsing exhorted them to effectively implement the policies, as the collective aim is a better future and being on par with other nations.

The one-day orientation was attended by SRGBV committees of all 17 districts. Altogether 97 members participated, which included officials from the Social Welfare Department, Police, Childline, DHEW, Sakhi One Stop Centre, Students’ Union Representatives, School Heads and Teacher Counsellors.
