Mokokchung, 4th May, 2026 (Nokinketer News):  Daochier I Imchen of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the by-election to the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency under Mokokchung district, securing a decisive victory margin of 3,123 votes.

According to the official, Imchen polled 7,317 votes. His nearest rival, independent candidate Toshikaba, secured 4,194 votes. Other candidates included Imliwapang with 3,633 votes and I. Abenjang with 3,219 votes, while Imchatoba Imchen and T. Chalukumba Ao trailed with 147 and 144 votes, respectively.

The constituency had 22,506 registered electors, of whom 18,654 valid votes were cast. The election also recorded 48 NOTA votes and 43 rejected votes, taking the total votes polled to 18,745.

The bypoll was necessitated by the death of sitting BJP MLA Imkong L Imchen last November. Voting was held peacefully on April 9, 2026, registering a strong voter turnout of 82.21%, reflecting high public engagement in the democratic process.

With this victory, Daochier I Imchen has been duly elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the 28 Koridang (ST) constituency. He received his Certificate of Election from Returning Officer Nockpai Konyak, SDO(C), at the Mokokchung DC office today, May 4, 2026.
