
Mokokchung, 9th May, 2026 (Nokinketer News): In a late-night operation on May 8, Mokokchung Police intercepted a vehicle disguised as being on “Army duty” and recovered more than 15,000 empty liquor bottles, leading to the arrest of four individuals.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team was conducting surprise checks in the Sewak Gate area at approximately 9:00 PM when they stopped a suspicious Tata truck bearing registration number AS 25 DC 9621. The vehicle was found to be impersonating an “ON ARMY DUTY” transport.
Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered 184 bags containing a total of 15,824 empty bottles of McDowell’s No. 1 Rum. Police suspect the bottles were being transported for use in the adulteration or illegal manufacturing of liquor.
Four persons were apprehended. They have been identified as:
- Rongsentoshi Ao (29) , son of Imlirenba, resident of Ungma village, Artang ward, Mokokchung.
- Limanungsang (26) , son of Imtipokyim, resident of Sungratsu village, Artang ward, Mokokchung.
- Hassan Ali (25) , son of Abdul Barek, resident of Barjabari village, Nalbari district, Assam.
- Ruhul Amin (27) , son of Unish Ali, resident of Barjabari village, Nalbari district, Assam.
A case has been registered under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, and an investigation is underway, police officials confirmed.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Mokokchung Police. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
