Wednesday, July 1, 2026 (Nokinketer News): A consultative meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS, was held at the DC’s Office, Kohima, on June 30 to address a representation submitted by the Meriema Village Youth Organisation (MVYO) seeking immediate repairs to the National Highway stretch passing through Meriema village.

The meeting was attended by officials from the district administration, PWD (National Highways), representatives of the contractor, M/s Nitin Sai Construction, and members of the MVYO.

During the meeting, the MVYO highlighted the deteriorating condition of the road, citing incomplete works, inadequate drainage, uncleared debris and delays in execution despite repeated representations made since March this year.

The Executive Engineer, PWD (NH), informed the meeting that proposals for repairing the sinking stretch had already been submitted and that the work order for the affected section was expected to be issued on June 30. The contractor acknowledged that although some work had been carried out, the project remained incomplete.

The contractor assured that mobilisation of materials would begin by July 2 and that repair works would resume immediately thereafter. The PWD (NH) further stated that work on the sinking stretch would commence by July 6 following the issuance of the work order.

It was also decided that the district administration and the MVYO would jointly monitor the progress of the works, while the department and the contractor would maintain close coordination to ensure timely completion of the project.

In view of the commitments made during the meeting, the MVYO agreed to withdraw its proposed restriction on the movement of government-registered vehicles within the jurisdiction of Meriema village.

The Deputy Commissioner thanked all stakeholders for their cooperation and emphasised the importance of adhering to the agreed timelines to ensure the early completion of the road repair works.
