
Dimapur, 19th August 2026 (Nokinketer News): The first meeting of the District Electricity Committee (DEC), Department of Power, Nagaland, was held at the DC’s Conference Hall, Dimapur, on August 19 under the chairmanship of Lok Sabha MP and DEC chairperson S. Supongmeren Jamir.
The Department of Power gave a presentation on the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), a Ministry of Power initiative aimed at improving the quality and reliability of electricity supply, strengthening distribution infrastructure, reducing Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses and enhancing the financial sustainability of power distribution.
The committee reviewed the progress of smart metering, loss-reduction works, installation and upgradation of transformers, 11 kV and 33 kV lines, reconductoring, cabling and electrification of left-out households. It was informed that RDSS works sanctioned for Dimapur, including new and upgraded 11 kV lines, distribution transformers, reconductoring of 11 kV and 33 kV lines and HT cabling, were valued at around ₹459.22 crore.
The meeting discussed the implementation of smart metering under RDSS, with Jamir seeking clarification on challenges faced in installing smart meters, particularly consumer reluctance to accept the new system. The committee stressed the need for greater public awareness and better coordination to facilitate smooth implementation.
Reviewing the progress of smart metering, the department informed that 3,17,210 consumer meters, 6,276 distribution transformer (DT) meters, 24 boundary meters and 368 feeder meters had been sanctioned across the state. In Dimapur, 76,368 consumer meters, 1,574 DT meters, three boundary meters and 52 feeder meters had been sanctioned, of which 21,568 consumer meters, 386 DT meters and 44 feeder meters had been installed as on August 14, 2026.
The committee also reviewed quality assurance measures, including field inspections and physical verification of RDSS works. It was informed that two flying squads headed by Superintending Engineers had been constituted to inspect smart metering and infrastructure projects.
On the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, the department reported that 826 rooftop solar applications had been received through the National Portal, of which 473 installations with a combined capacity of 1.58 MW had been completed.
The meeting further reviewed the financial progress of RDSS and was informed that as on August 12, 2026, ₹115.84 crore under the Government of India component and ₹13.55 crore under the State component had been released and fully utilised.
The committee emphasised timely implementation, strict quality control and coordination among stakeholders. It also underscored the need to resolve right-of-way and land-related issues and ensure effective installation of smart meters to achieve the objectives of the RDSS.
