Mokokchung, 23rd September 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has called for democratic dialogue and open public debate amid the ongoing discussion surrounding former Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. S.C. Jamir’s views on the Naga political issue.
AKM said that if Dr. Jamir has expressed views on the Naga political issue, those views are open to questioning, disagreement and public scrutiny. However, it maintained that questioning his views should not be equated with questioning his right to express them.
The organisation stated that if every Naga has the freedom to express an opinion on the Naga political issue, every Naga should likewise have the freedom to question, challenge or seek clarification on such views. It said no individual or organisation should claim exclusive ownership over the right to discuss the political future of the Naga people.
AKM further stated that if any statement is considered factually or historically incorrect, the appropriate response should be to place relevant facts, records and reasons before the Naga public.
“An answer to a disputed political view should be another well-reasoned view, not an attempt to silence the speaker,” the organisation said.
Maintaining that the Naga political issue concerns every Naga, AKM said it must remain open to public discussion. It stressed that differences of opinion should be addressed through dialogue, reasoned debate and mutual respect rather than intimidation or condemnation.
The organisation reiterated that the Naga political issue is a collective concern and that no individual or organisation should claim exclusive ownership over the right to discuss it.
