Mokokchung, 24th September 2026 (Nokinketer News): Four persons in Mangkolemba Sub-Division have died over the past few days following suspected consumption of spurious/adulterated MC Rum, while four others have reportedly fallen ill after consuming liquor, Mokokchung Police said.
In connection with the incident, Mangkolemba Police Station has registered a case vide Case No. 002 under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 44(a), (c), (d) and (e) of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act.
Police said six persons have so far been arrested and suspected adulterated liquor seized in connection with the case.
A thorough investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the deaths and illnesses, trace the source and supply chain of the suspected spurious liquor, and identify those involved in its manufacture, transportation, distribution or sale. Police said appropriate legal action would be taken against all persons found involved.
The exact cause of the deaths and illnesses, however, remains under investigation and will be determined on the basis of medical and other supporting evidence.
Given the serious nature of the incident, Mokokchung Police has strongly advised the public to refrain from consuming liquor. Police cautioned that liquor from the suspected source may have been distributed to other parts of the State and that consumption could pose a serious risk to life and health.
Police further advised anyone experiencing gastric pain, dizziness, blurred vision, breathing difficulties, severe headache or loss of consciousness after consuming liquor to immediately seek medical attention and inform the nearest police station or concerned authority.
The public has also been urged to report any suspected sale or storage of spurious/adulterated liquor, as well as information regarding its source and distribution, to the police.
Police said timely information would help authorities provide medical assistance, prevent further casualties, contain the distribution of the suspected liquor and initiate legal action against those responsible.
Mokokchung Police has solicited public cooperation in preventing further loss of life and in identifying persons involved in the illegal trade and distribution of spurious liquor.
