Longleng, 8th October 2026 (Nokinketer News): Nagaland Governor Dr. Nand Kishore Yadav visited Longleng district on October 8 and held an interaction with district officers and civil society organisations at the DPDB Hall, calling for community participation, improved infrastructure and sustainable development in the district.
Addressing the gathering, Yadav said his district visits were aimed at understanding local developmental priorities, listening to people and gaining firsthand knowledge of the challenges and opportunities in different parts of the State. He stressed the importance of regular engagement with districts to ensure that development reaches all sections and regions of Nagaland.
Describing Longleng as an important part of Eastern Nagaland and home to the Phom community, the Governor highlighted the district’s potential in agriculture, horticulture, handloom and handicrafts, forest-based livelihoods, tourism and entrepreneurship. He said better infrastructure, modern technology, value addition, food processing and improved market access could help create sustainable livelihoods and strengthen the local economy.
Yadav particularly encouraged farmers and young entrepreneurs to explore new markets and adopt modern agricultural practices and digital marketing. He urged young people to acquire new skills, pursue higher education and entrepreneurship, and become active participants in the development of their communities.
At the same time, he stressed that development must go hand in hand with preservation of cultural identity. The traditions, customary practices, indigenous knowledge, music, dance, crafts and community institutions of the Phom people, he said, are valuable assets and can serve as a foundation for sustainable development.
The Governor also identified tourism as an area with considerable potential, citing Longleng’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and traditional way of life. He said responsible and community-based tourism, supported by better connectivity, hospitality infrastructure and promotion, could generate employment and new opportunities.
Calling roads, communication networks, healthcare, education and essential public services fundamental to inclusive development, Yadav urged the district administration and stakeholders to focus on improving service delivery, particularly in remote and underserved areas. He also called for cooperation between the government and people, emphasising transparency, accountability and community participation.
Advisor for Airways and Railways A. Pongshi Phom welcomed the Governor and highlighted various welfare schemes of the Government of India and the State government’s focus on peace and development.
Phom People’s Council president Y.B. Angam Phom expressed gratitude for the Governor’s visit and highlighted challenges faced by rural communities, particularly poor road connectivity and market access. He sought attention to road development and infrastructure, and urged intervention for timely completion of the hospital and Lighthouse (NECTAR) project in the district.
Departmental presentations were made by PWD (R&B), Agriculture and Allied departments, and the Medical Department. The programme was chaired by ADC Longleng Thungchanbemo Tungoe.
