Meluri, 28th October 2026 (Nokinketer News): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Wednesday called for improved connectivity, cross-border trade and sustainable development to unlock Meluri district’s potential during his visit to the district.
The Governor was accorded a warm welcome by the district administration, departmental officials, village council representatives and other dignitaries at the Meluri Village Council Hall.
Addressing the gathering, Yadav highlighted Meluri’s strategic location along the international boundary with Myanmar, rich natural resources and tourism potential. He said the district’s evolution from a Bench Court established in 1958 to a full-fledged district marked a significant milestone in its administrative and developmental journey.
Emphasising the need for better road connectivity towards Myanmar, the Governor said improved infrastructure would enhance access to markets and essential services while creating opportunities for trade, tourism and economic growth. He also underscored the potential of the International Trade Centre at Avakhung in promoting cross-border trade under the Centre’s Act East Policy.
Advisor for NSDMA and Inland Waterways, Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, also stressed the importance of strengthening connectivity from Avakhung to the proposed New Thematic Port on the Myanmar side. He said improved connectivity could promote cross-border trade, regional cooperation and economic development, while highlighting opportunities in inland waterways and power trade.
The Governor further called for harnessing the district’s mineral resources, agriculture, horticulture and tourism potential while protecting the environment and safeguarding local communities. He stressed the need to strengthen education, healthcare, drinking water, electricity and digital connectivity.
Urging government departments to work with urgency and a shared vision, Yadav encouraged the people to actively participate in the district’s development. He expressed confidence that Meluri, Nagaland’s youngest district, could emerge as a model border district contributing to the state’s progress and India’s engagement with Southeast Asia.
