Tuesday, 9th June, 2026 (Nokinketer News): Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the Incubation Centre for Food Processing at the State Industrial Area, Toluvi, Dimapur, on June 8. He also virtually inaugurated three projects under the Department of Industries & Commerce.

Addressing the programme, Dr. Rio highlighted the importance of agriculture and allied sectors, noting that nearly 70 per cent of Nagaland’s population depends on farming. He said food processing and small-scale industries offer significant opportunities for employment generation, entrepreneurship and reducing dependence on imported goods.

The Chief Minister said the projects, funded under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, would strengthen local production, create market linkages and support value addition of local produce. He urged proper management of the facilities and encouraged youth to explore entrepreneurship, MSMEs and self-employment opportunities instead of relying solely on government jobs.

Dr. Rio also assured that similar facilities would be expanded to other districts in the future to promote inclusive economic development across the state.

The projects inaugurated virtually included the Incubation Centre for Entrepreneurs and Infrastructure Development at Ganeshnagar, Chumoukedima, the Incubation Centre for Food Processing at Tuensang, and the Modern Aggregation Centre at Longnak, Mokokchung.

Advisor for SCERT and Food Processing Achumbemo Kikon outlined the department’s “Six P’s” vision—Production, Processing, Preservation, Packaging, Pricing and Patenting—while Advisor for Industries & Commerce Hekani Jakhalu stressed the need to develop district-specific food processing ecosystems to boost farmers’ incomes, create jobs and strengthen local economies.
