Wednesday, June 10, 2026 (Nokinketer News): Minister for Health & Family Welfare, P. Paiwang Konyak, has called for a collective and coordinated effort to support the Nagaland Government’s proposed one-year ban on tobacco and nicotine-containing food products across the state.

The appeal was made during a high-level review meeting of the Health & Family Welfare Department on June 9, attended by Secretary H&FW S. Tainiu Khiam and senior departmental officials.

Emphasising public health concerns, the Minister urged civil society organisations, churches and community leaders to support the ban, stating that it would help protect public health, particularly the younger generation. He also called for close cooperation with district administrations and police authorities to ensure effective implementation.

The meeting reviewed key health programmes, including Ebola preparedness, the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, and the 100-day mission under NQAS. Officials informed the meeting that no Ebola case has been detected in Nagaland, though heightened surveillance and preparedness measures remain in place.

Progress of major healthcare projects, including Mon Medical College, NIMSR Kohima, PM-DevINE projects, and proposals for trauma centres, a State Cancer Institute, and a new AIIMS at Naga Ki, was also reviewed.
