Mokokchung, 22nd June, 2026 (Nokinketer News): The organising committee of the Inter High School and Hr. Sec. School Basketball Tournament, under the aegis of the Basketball Association Mokokchung District (BAMD), will organize the second edition of the Inter School and Higher Secondary School Basketball Tournament from August 5 to 7, 2026, at the BAMD Basketball Court, Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.

The decision to host the tournament was finalized during the first organizing and sub-committee meeting held on June 19, where members discussed the tournament schedule and other related matters.

The tournament, themed “Forging Future,” aims to nurture young basketball talent and promote the sport at the grassroots level. It is envisioned as a platform for school students to showcase their skills while fostering sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and leadership among young athletes.

The tournament will be open to all high schools and higher secondary schools in Mokokchung district, including institutions from towns, villages and subdivisions. Schools from outside the district are also invited to participate.

According to the organizing committee, the previous edition attracted interest from schools in four districts outside Mokokchung. Building on that response, invitations have been extended to interested schools beyond the district for this year’s tournament.

The committee stated that the event seeks to strengthen basketball development among students by providing opportunities for healthy competition, skill enhancement and exposure. It further informed that the tournament will be conducted as an annual running trophy event.

To support participating teams, coaching assistance will be provided to schools upon request, with mentors available to help teams prepare for the tournament. Registration details, tournament guidelines and fixtures will be announced in due course.

The BAMD organizing committee has called upon schools, sports enthusiasts and the community to extend their support and participation to make the second edition of the tournament a success.
