
Mokokchung, 3rd August 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Ao community celebrated Tsungremmung, the traditional pre-harvest festival, across Mokokchung district and other parts of the state on Monday with traditional fervour and community participation.
In Mokokchung, the main celebration was held at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex under the aegis of Ao Senden, with Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir attending as the honoured guest.
Addressing the gathering, Jamir said that while celebrating Tsungremmung, people should also embrace the true essence of the festival, describing it as a time of sanctification of oneself and the community to seek blessings for peace, prosperity and abundance.
Referring to the challenges faced by society, he urged the people to move away from the culture of blame and instead reflect on their own responsibilities. He stressed that lasting social change can be achieved only when individuals and communities collectively introspect and work towards positive transformation.
Jamir further called upon the people to uphold the values embodied in Tsungremmung, making the festival not merely a celebration but also an occasion for self-reflection, renewal, unity and collective responsibility.
Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, and Mokokchung Municipal Council Chairperson Imkongchuba also extended Tsungremmung greetings to the gathering.
The programme began with a welcome address by Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong, while the significance of Tsungremmung was shared by I. Alemmeren Longchar, Chairman of Khensa Village Council.
The celebration also featured traditional performances and community activities, bringing people together to strengthen social bonds and reaffirm the rich cultural heritage of the Ao community.
