Nagaland, August 4, 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll in Nagaland with October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, according to a notification issued by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland.

The CEO stated that Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) of all Assembly Constituencies have been directed to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll while preventing the inclusion of ineligible persons.

The revision process will begin with preparatory activities from August 5 to 14, during which meetings with political parties, training of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), establishment of help desks, dissemination of information, and printing and distribution of Enumeration Forms will be carried out.

From August 16 to September 14, BLOs will conduct house-to-house visits to distribute pre-filled Enumeration Forms to existing electors, assist them in completing the forms, and later collect the completed forms. Electors will receive an acknowledgement upon submission.

During the same period, EROs will also undertake rationalisation of polling stations to ensure that, as far as possible, no polling station has more than 1,200 electors and that polling station boundaries do not overlap.

The Draft Electoral Roll will be published on September 20 and will include only those existing electors whose duly filled Enumeration Forms have been received and verified. Electors who fail to submit the forms within the stipulated period may apply for inclusion by submitting Form 6 along with the prescribed declaration during the claims and objections period.

The period for claims and objections will run from September 20 to October 20, during which EROs and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) will verify eligibility in accordance with Article 326 of the Constitution and the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

The notice and disposal phase will continue from September 20 to November 18. During this period, doubtful cases will be investigated, notices may be issued to concerned electors, and decisions on inclusion or deletion will be taken based on field verification and supporting documents. Suspected cases involving foreign nationals will be referred to the competent authority under the Citizenship Act, 1955.

The Final Electoral Roll will be published on November 22, 2026.

Describing the SIR as a participative exercise, the CEO appealed to electors, political parties, and all stakeholders to extend full cooperation in ensuring the preparation of an accurate and error-free electoral roll for Nagaland.
