ESIC Targets 15,000 Insured Persons for 100-Bedded Hospital in Nagaland

(Regional Board reviews ESI implementation, opens Kohima branch office and plans expansion to Tuensang, Mokokchung and Mon)

Nagaland, 13^th August 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Regional Office (North-Eastern Region), held the 2nd Nagaland Regional Board Meeting in Kohima on August 12, chaired by ESIC Regional Board Chairman and Advisor for Labour, Employment & Skill Development and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme in Nagaland and focused on expanding coverage and strengthening healthcare services. Longkumer stressed the need to achieve a target of 15,000 insured persons to pave the way for establishing a 100-bedded ESIC hospital in the state. He also called for greater cooperation from the Labour Department, employers and employees in registering eligible establishments and workers.

The Board discussed measures to improve medical services, including engaging doctors and paramedical staff at enhanced remuneration, and resolved to hold Regional Board meetings every six months for regular monitoring of the ESI Scheme.

Labour & Employment Commissioner and Secretary Robert Longchari informed the Board that suitable land would be identified for ESIC branch offices at Tuensang, Mokokchung and Mon, while rented premises could be used until permanent sites are allotted.

Insurance Commissioner (NE Zone) Pranay Sinha highlighted the benefits available under the ESI Scheme and urged early formation of the ESI Society. Regional Director Champak Biswas called for closer coordination between the Labour Department and Social Security Officers to expedite registration of employers and employees.

CEO of the ESI Scheme Avile Vitso informed the meeting that the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research has sought approval to sign an MoU with ESIC to provide medical services to ESI beneficiaries.

Representatives of employers and employees also suggested constituting a committee to oversee employer registration, conducting more awareness programmes and health camps, and issuing directives to ensure mandatory registration of eligible establishments under the ESI Scheme.

Following the meeting, Longkumer inaugurated the new ESIC Branch Office at the Labour Commissioner’s Office complex in Kohima.
