Chumoukedima, 8th September 2026 (Nokinketer News): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Tuesday inaugurated the “Made in Nagaland Centre” at YouthNet, 5th Mile, Chumoukedima, describing it as a significant step towards creating an ecosystem where the State’s creativity, traditional skills and entrepreneurial potential could translate into sustainable livelihoods and wider market access.
Addressing the inaugural programme as the chief guest, the Governor said Nagaland’s indigenous crafts, textiles, agricultural products, food traditions and artistic expressions possessed immense economic potential when supported with proper market linkages. He said the initiative would help bridge the gap between local producers and larger markets while preserving the State’s rich cultural heritage.
Appreciating YouthNet’s efforts, Yadav noted that the Made in Nagaland initiative, launched in 2018 with 81 entrepreneurs, had expanded to nearly 350 entrepreneurs offering around 600 products from across the State. He stressed that the platform held particular significance for youth, women, MSMEs and rural communities, encouraging young people to become job creators rather than job seekers.
The Governor underscored the need to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem through access to finance, mentoring, technology, branding, packaging, digital marketing and market intelligence. He also called for greater emphasis on quality control, standardisation, product consistency and digital commerce so that products bearing the “Made in Nagaland” label would be recognised for authenticity, quality and innovation in national and international markets.
Describing Chumoukedima as an ideal location due to its strategic position as the gateway to Nagaland, he said the Centre should serve not only as a retail outlet but also as a bridge connecting producers with consumers, rural enterprises with urban markets, and traditional knowledge with contemporary design. He further urged stronger collaboration among government departments, financial institutions, educational institutions, private enterprises and civil society to ensure the initiative generated sustainable livelihoods, empowered women and expanded market opportunities for local products.
Advisor for Industries and Commerce and YouthNet founder Hekani Jakhalu traced the journey of the initiative, stating that YouthNet, established in 2006, was founded to promote entrepreneurship among young people. She said the Chumoukedima outlet was the third Made in Nagaland Centre after the first was launched in Kohima in 2018. Jakhalu highlighted ongoing efforts to improve branding, packaging and market access, while noting that the RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) Scheme was facilitating access to finance for local entrepreneurs.
Earlier, YouthNet Director and Chief Functionary Nuneseno Chase delivered the welcome address. Following the programme, the Governor toured the Made in Nagaland Centre and the Training Institute. The event was attended by advisors, legislators, district officials, entrepreneurs and other dignitaries.
