Mokokchung, 23rd September 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Ao Senden has asserted that sovereignty remains the “sole aim and legitimate aspiration” of the Naga people and reaffirmed its stand on the issue.
In a statement, the apex Ao body acknowledged differences of opinion and divisions that have emerged during the course of the Naga political journey, but maintained that such differences do not place the Naga political issue in the sole domain of any individual, group or faction.
The Ao Senden strongly condemned remarks reportedly made against former Nagaland Chief Minister Dr S.C. Jamir by NSCN (IM) Deputy Ato Kilonser V.S. Atem and Steering Committee member R.H. Raising on September 16.
The organisation objected to Atem’s reported statement that Jamir was “not mandated and authorized” and was “just talking for the sake of barking”, as well as Raising’s assertion that Jamir was not an advocate of the Naga people and had no right to speak on the Naga issue.
The Ao Senden stated that any Naga citizen with an understanding of the Naga political situation has the right to express views and contribute towards finding a way forward for what it described as a “stagnated political process.”
The organisation has therefore asked Atem and Raising to retract their statements within 15 days, warning that failure to do so would compel the Ao Senden to “take its own course of action.”
