Mokokchung, 22nd September, 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Watsü Mungdang, apex women’s organisation of the Ao community, has strongly defended former Nagaland Chief Minister and Governor Dr S.C. Jamir’s right to speak on the Naga political issue, asserting that no individual or organisation has exclusive ownership over the discourse.
In a statement, the organisation said the Naga political issue “fundamentally belongs to every Naga by birth” and stressed that every Naga has the right to express views on matters concerning the Naga people and their future.
The statement came amid the recent public discourse over remarks made by Dr S.C. Jamir on the Naga political issue and questions raised over his right to speak on the matter.
The Watsü Mungdang said every Naga, irrespective of political affiliation, organisation, profession or position, has the legitimate right to participate in discussions concerning the Naga people.
“Differences of opinion are natural in any democratic discourse and should be addressed through dialogue and reasoned discussion,” it said.
However, the organisation strongly condemned what it described as statements by V.S. Atem and R.H. Raising questioning an individual’s right to speak on the Naga political issue.
It also condemned the statement of MLA Achumbemo Kikon, alleging that it “humiliated” Dr S.C. Jamir, whom it described as a leader who continues to work for the Nagas.
The Watsü Mungdang maintained that no individual or organisation could claim exclusive ownership over the right to discuss the Naga political issue.
It urged Nagas across political affiliations, backgrounds and ideologies to contribute to public discourse without fear of intimidation or “delegitimisation”.
