Mokokchung, 26th September 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Mokokchung District Administration has ordered zero tolerance against the sale, transportation and storage of liquor in the district following reports of suspected spurious liquor consumption, deaths and hospitalisation in Mangkolemba Sub-Division and other areas.
The decision was taken during an emergency coordination meeting convened by Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, at his office on Saturday. The meeting was attended by enforcement agencies, ward authorities, village councils, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to deliberate on the prevailing situation.
Following detailed deliberations, the administration resolved to intensify the ongoing enforcement drive against illegal liquor activities, with enforcement agencies to work in coordination with town, village and ward authorities and civil society organisations.
The District Administration has also issued a health advisory to people who may have consumed liquor, particularly within the past 48 hours. Individuals experiencing dizziness, blurred vision, difficulty in breathing, nausea, severe abdominal pain or loss of consciousness have been advised to immediately seek medical attention at the nearest primary health unit and report the matter to the nearest local authorities.
The administration appealed to village councils, ward and colony authorities, municipal and town councils, civil society organisations, government departments and the general public to extend active cooperation to enforcement agencies in implementing strict measures related to prohibition and preventing further loss of life.
