Mokokchung, 29th September 2026 (Nokinketer News): The 4th Inter-Departmental Sports Meet 2026 was inaugurated at the Mokokchung Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on Tuesday, with Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong as the inaugural guest.
Addressing the gathering, Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong urged the participating players to uphold team spirit and sportsmanship, saying the annual event provides an opportunity to foster friendship, unity and cooperation among government employees.
Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Marsanen said achieving the goal would require the collective efforts of every citizen and government department. He stressed that the nation can progress only when individuals contribute sincerely towards the common good.
He also called upon the participants to make responsible use of public infrastructure and resources, embrace technology and innovation, and deliver public services with greater compassion and commitment.
Appreciating the organising committee for conducting the sports meet, Marsanen wished all participating departments success and encouraged the players to accept both victory and defeat with humility and a positive sporting spirit.
Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner and chief host of the event, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, described the sports meet as an important platform for promoting physical well-being among government employees.
He said the event also provides an opportunity for personnel from different departments to interact, build stronger coordination and foster a spirit of teamwork in serving the people of the district.
More than 30 government departments are participating in the annual sports meet, which features competitions in badminton, carrom, chess, athletics, table tennis, futsal, penalty shootout and arm wrestling.
The inaugural programme began with an invocation by Senior Pastor of Mokokchung Town Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Ponen Longchar. Mokokchung ADC and convenor of the 4th Inter-Departmental Sports Meet, Atsungba Walling, delivered the welcome address.
Students of Eden Academy presented a special song during the programme, while District Youth Resources & Sports PIS Hongba Konyak administered the sports pledge to the participating teams.
The sports meet is aimed at promoting camaraderie, teamwork and physical fitness among personnel from different government departments while providing them an opportunity to interact beyond their official duties.
The closing ceremony is scheduled for October 1, with 1 Assam Rifles Commandant Col. Nagendra Kumar Saraswat invited as the guest of honour.
