Zunheboto, 28th September 2026 (Nokinketer News): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Monday reviewed the administrative functioning and developmental priorities of Zunheboto district during his official visit to the district headquarters, where he also received representations from major Sümi socio-cultural organisations on issues concerning the district and wider Naga society.
Describing Zunheboto as the “Land of Warriors,” Governor Yadav highlighted its cultural identity and potential in agriculture, forestry, human resources and tourism. He stressed that the district administration is the face of government for ordinary citizens and called for greater emphasis on last-mile delivery, particularly in remote areas.
On education, the Governor stressed learning outcomes, attendance, retention and transition to higher education or vocational opportunities. In the health sector, he called for functional manpower, adequate medicines and equipment at the district hospital, CHCs, PHCs and sub-centres.
Yadav also called for a shift in agriculture from a subsidy-oriented approach towards productivity, value addition, market linkages and stronger farmer organisations. He emphasised the importance of reliable electricity, drinking water, roads and digital connectivity, while stressing better quality and durability of road infrastructure to avoid repeated expenditure.
He further underlined the need for inter-departmental coordination and time-bound completion of delayed projects. On tourism, he identified Satoi Wildlife Sanctuary and Ghosü Wildlife Bird Sanctuary as areas with potential for sustainable, community-based tourism involving local youth through homestays and cultural experiences.
The Governor also advocated digital governance and district-level dashboards to monitor key indicators, while stressing that citizens with limited digital access must not be excluded from public services. He urged officials to remain accessible, responsive and accountable.
Meanwhile, the Sümi Hoho submitted a four-point representation covering the Naga political issue, religious sensitivities surrounding Vande Mataram, upgradation of Hezukhu Memorial District Hospital from 75 to 100 beds, and the proposed Showuba-Pangsha East-West Corridor.
The Hoho urged the Government of India to pursue a final, honourable, inclusive and mutually acceptable settlement to the Naga political issue, referring to the 2015 Framework Agreement and 2017 Agreed Position.
The Sümi Kükami Hoho highlighted the importance of traditional institutions and customary practices, while the Zunheboto Area Public Organisation raised concerns over youth unemployment, substance abuse, roads and agricultural development in the Tizu river basin.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly S. Toiho Yeptho said Zunheboto had not developed at the desired pace but expressed hope that stronger grassroots implementation of government schemes would accelerate development in the district.
The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto Dharam Raj, IAS, while Advisor for Food & Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection and Chairman of DPDB Zunheboto, K.T. Sukhalu, delivered the welcome address.
