Wokha, 14th October 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Office of the Wildlife Warden, Doyang Wildlife Division, under the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has reiterated the ban on hunting and trading of wild animals and birds, warning of strict legal action against violators.
In an official directive, the department stated that the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, adopted by Nagaland on December 18, 1981, prohibits the hunting of wild animals and birds within the state, except in cases permitted under the Act.
The directive specifically highlighted the protection of Amur Falcons, a migratory bird species that visits Nagaland annually. Hunting, trapping, killing, possessing or selling the birds for food or trade constitutes an offence under the Act.
Violators may face up to seven years of rigorous imprisonment, a fine of ₹25,000, or both, under Sections 9 and 51 of the Act, as stated in the directive.
The Wildlife Warden cautioned that legal action would be initiated against any individual or group found violating the provisions. The order applies throughout the jurisdiction of the Doyang Wildlife Division, covering Wokha, Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts.
The department has urged the public to strictly comply with the ban and cooperate in protecting wildlife and preserving biodiversity in the region.
