Mokokchung, 27th October 2026 (Nokinketer News): The Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), at its October meeting held on Oct 26 under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, approved the verification committee for the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) 2026–2027.

The board directed the Land Records and Survey Officer to submit details of departments allotted land at Marepkong Ward, including the status of the allotments, at the next meeting.

The house also discussed the revival of the Mokokchung District Art and Culture Council (MDACC), established in 1988 to promote and preserve Ao Naga art, culture and traditions. The Deputy Commissioner urged members to suggest fresh ideas to strengthen the council.

Applications from Community Care Connect, Kumlong Ward, and Salukum Rogo, Ungma, seeking official registration were approved and recommended for submission to the competent government authority. Another proposal submitted by the chairman of SMC, Luyimlenden, was also approved for forwarding to the higher authority.

SDO (Civil) Ajay Moktan, IAS, briefed the board on the proposed Viksit Mokokchung 2047 vision document, aligned with Viksit Nagaland and Viksit Bharat 2047. Expressing concern over the limited response from departments, the Deputy Commissioner directed all remaining Heads of Departments (HoDs) to submit the required information at the earliest.

The board was informed that a Union Minister of State would visit Mokokchung from November 2 to 4 to review centrally and state-sponsored schemes and projects. All HoDs were directed to be prepared for the meeting. The DC also requested their presence during the Chief Minister’s visit to Mokokchung on Oct 29 for the final match of the Silver Jubilee edition of the Dr. T. Ao Inter-District Football Trophy.

The Urban Development Officer presented the key provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, which came into effect on April 1. The rules mandate segregation of waste at source into four categories: wet, dry, sanitary and special-care waste.

Stressing the need to improve waste segregation and address improper dumping and drainage issues, the Deputy Commissioner urged departments to incorporate sanitation awareness into their programmes and village outreach activities.

The General Manager of the District Industries Centre presented ongoing centrally and state-sponsored schemes. The board appreciated the department’s efforts, while the Land Records & Survey Officer is scheduled to make the next presentation.
