Kohima, 26th October 2026 (Nokinketer News): Governor of Nagaland Nand Kishore Yadav inaugurated Polo Hotel, Kohima, on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in the State’s hospitality and tourism sector.
Addressing the inauguration, the Governor said the establishment represented an investment in Nagaland’s future, creating livelihood opportunities and strengthening the State’s tourism potential. Highlighting Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty and vibrant festivals, he stressed the need for quality accommodation and professional hospitality services to attract more visitors.
He urged the hotel management to build strong linkages with local entrepreneurs, farmers, artisans and food producers by promoting indigenous cuisine, local products and traditional art. He also emphasised sustainable tourism practices, environmental responsibility and community participation, stating that tourism development must generate wider economic benefits for local people.
Minister for Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along described Polo Hotel Kohima as Nagaland’s first five-star hotel, calling it a major milestone for the State’s tourism and hospitality industry. He acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the Look East and Act East policies, as well as the support of Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, in advancing development and connectivity in the Northeast.
Along commended the Polo management for investing in Nagaland and assured continued support from the Department of Tourism. He also urged citizens to protect and preserve such institutions, observing that private investment would play a vital role in the State’s growth and prosperity.
The Governor expressed hope that the hotel would generate local employment, enhance visitor experiences and contribute to Nagaland’s economic progress. He stressed that the long-term success of the hospitality sector would depend on quality service, cleanliness, safety, professionalism and respect for local traditions.
Among those present at the inauguration were Advisor for Industries and Commerce Hekani Jakhalu, Polo Hotel Group Chairman and Director Kishan Tibrewalla, Whole-time Director and CEO Deval Tibrewalla, along with other dignitaries and representatives of the hospitality industry and civil society organisations.
