It may come as a surprise to many, yet the reality remains that the Arunachal Christian Prayer Center (ACPC), Jipu—once regarded as the spiritual torchbearer of the hill people—no longer holds the same central place in the hearts of the people as it once did. During the revival movement of the 1980s, ACPC rose to prominence and gained recognition as the first “spiritual hospital” of the region. It was a place where people from different tribes, backgrounds, and denominations gathered in faith, seeking healing, guidance, and divine intervention. However, over the years, its influence appears to have diminished, and its identity as a pioneering prayer center seems to have blended into a broader and less distinct role.

In its present condition, one may naturally ask: is it possible to restore this 34-year-old prayer house to its former glory? Can ACPC once again become a vibrant center of spiritual renewal, as it was during its early years? These questions are not merely rhetorical; they reflect the deep concern of many believers who still cherish the legacy of the institution. Others may wonder whether ACPC can renew itself in the context of changing ministry patterns within the state, or whether it can fill the gaps left by other prayer centers that have emerged in the region.

Frankly speaking, ACPC still has many sympathizers. However, sympathy alone is not enough to sustain a spiritual movement. What it lacks today is the strong and committed support of believers that it once enjoyed as the “darling of the masses.” In its earlier days, ACPC was not just a place—it was a movement, fueled by the faith and participation of the people. To revitalize ACPC, there is a need for both external and internal efforts: dedicated workers who can contribute physically and organizationally, and sincere prayer warriors who can strengthen the spiritual foundation from within.

Encouragingly, it is heartening to learn that many leaders and disciples within the council are considering ways to restore ACPC to its former stature. This is a positive sign, indicating that the vision for revival is still alive. Furthermore, other prayer centers in the region are also interceding for its renewal. This collective support reflects a shared understanding that ACPC plays a unique role that cannot easily be replaced.

One of the reasons for this continued relevance is the geographical and cultural complexity of the region. Arunachal Pradesh is home to numerous tribes and sub-tribes, each with its own language, customs, and spiritual needs. Due to these differences, other prayer centers often find it challenging to cater effectively to the entire population. ACPC, however, historically served as a unifying platform, bridging these divides and addressing the spiritual needs of a diverse community.

Many believers feel that the time has come for ACPC’s recovery. Some argue that its relevance has actually increased over time, especially in the face of rapid social and cultural changes. Others believe that the unique cultural context of the region makes it difficult for newer prayer centers to fully meet the expectations and aspirations of the people. For many, their attachment to ACPC is not merely functional but deeply emotional and spiritual. It is a place associated with personal testimonies, fasting, healing, and transformative experiences.

Viewed in this light, the decline of ACPC is not just an institutional issue but a spiritual concern. It reflects a gap that has not been fully filled by other prayer houses. While these centers contribute significantly to the spiritual life of the community, they often fall short in addressing the specific and diverse needs of every visitor. This situation highlights the urgent need for a revival—not only of ACPC but of the broader prayer movement in the region.

At the same time, it must be acknowledged that the challenges facing ACPC cannot be overcome overnight. The fissures that exist within the spiritual landscape of the region are too deep to be addressed by a single institution alone. Even if ACPC were to be revived, it would still require the cooperation and involvement of other prayer centers to effectively serve the entire population. A collective effort is essential to meet the varied and complex needs of the people.

Despite these challenges, the relevance of ACPC has not diminished, especially in light of the belief in the nearness of Christ’s second coming. For many believers, this adds a sense of urgency to the need for spiritual renewal. However, one of the major concerns is the current composition of the prayer warriors at ACPC. Many of them are elderly and come from less formal educational backgrounds. While their experience, dedication, and spiritual strength are invaluable, their age and physical limitations pose significant challenges.

At one point in time, the staff at ACPC largely consisted of older individuals, giving the impression of an “old-age home.” Yet, it would be unfair to underestimate their contribution. Despite their age and lack of formal education, they have demonstrated remarkable resilience and commitment, often surpassing younger individuals in terms of dedication to prayer and rural service. Their lives stand as a testimony to faith and perseverance.

However, the modern world demands new approaches and tools. The inability to adapt to contemporary methods—such as communication technologies, infrastructure development, and organizational management—has become a major drawback for ACPC. In addition, the physical demands of intensive prayer and ministry work can be overwhelming for elderly individuals. These limitations highlight the need for a balanced approach that combines experience with youthful energy.

In this context, the role of ACPC must evolve. One of its key responsibilities should be to bring together different churches under a common platform of prayer. In today’s environment, where denominational boundaries are gradually becoming less rigid, the formation of a trans-denominational prayer movement is both feasible and necessary. ACPC, with its historical legacy and central location, is well-positioned to lead such an initiative.

By fostering unity among churches, ACPC can once again become a focal point for spiritual activity in the region. Its mission should extend beyond its own campus to serve the broader faith community. As an institution dedicated to the well-being of believers and the salvation of humanity, it must embrace a vision that is inclusive, collaborative, and forward-looking.

Another important step toward revival is the inclusion of younger generations in the ministry. The introduction of recent Bible graduates into the campus can bring fresh perspectives and renewed energy. These individuals can contribute not only theological knowledge but also innovative ideas and modern skills. Their involvement can help bridge the gap between tradition and contemporary needs.

As these graduates pursue their ecclesiastical careers, their personal growth will naturally contribute to the growth of the center. They can serve as a link between the older and younger generations, ensuring continuity while also promoting progress. This integration of experience and innovation is crucial for the long-term sustainability of ACPC.

Ultimately, the revival of ACPC depends on a combination of factors. It requires a renewed commitment from believers, effective leadership, and a clear vision for the future. It also demands practical steps, such as improving infrastructure, adopting modern tools, and fostering collaboration among churches. Above all, it requires a strong spiritual foundation, rooted in prayer and faith.

The story of ACPC is not just about decline; it is also about potential. Its past achievements serve as a reminder of what is possible when faith and community come together. While the challenges are significant, they are not insurmountable. With collective effort, dedication, and divine guidance, ACPC can indeed be revived.

In conclusion, the question is not merely whether ACPC can revive, but whether the community is willing to invest in its revival. The answer lies not only in the institution itself but in the hearts of the people it serves. If believers come together with a shared vision and renewed commitment, ACPC can once again become a beacon of hope and a center of spiritual healing for the region.
